Toronto Winter Swimming Club at Humber Bay Park

We are glad to join this community of winter swimming.

We swim at Humber Bay Park in Etobicoke since 1997. Every Sunday at the noon.

We don’t write the manuals of winter swimming. We don’t tell the stoires “How I dip into the cold water”.

We just do it. We practice. It’s not once year dip, it’s the life style.

Almost there!

This might seem a little soon to be announcing the first winter swim of 2008, but bear with me..

We were thinking about the 19th of October, 2008, 7pm. The reason? Well I met a lovely girl on the subway today and it reminded me of how this all started, and how many people I tried to “recruit” that said they were scared of freezing to death (this won’t happen) so didn’t want to try it.

Therefore if we start a wee bit earlier this year that excuse won’t be valid!

With that in mind and as I mentioned, the first swim will be at Cherry Beach [Google map it] (walk to the end of Cherry Street until you hit the lake) at 7pm on October the 23rd 2008. Be there with towels, a smile on your face and a hot drink if you fancy.

Footwear of some sort is recommended as the stones can be a little sharp!

Email me (Roo) or Shannon if you have any questions..

2005 Karim Diab Cold Water Immersion

Posted on June 6, 2008 | Leave a Comment

Recently some old photos of Karim Diab (described, perhaps inaccurately as a Russian David Blaine, in part due to doing a 48-day fast in a sealed chamber) were posted to EnglishRussia, showing him doing a one-hour immersion in the cold water of a hole in the ice of the Moscow River, while being monitored by scientists to examine the effects of the immersion. Apparently afterwards he was pretty out of it and unable to talk, although he did beat the world record. The “MNP” written on his forehead means “Peace”.
