natural health system

”Dying is all they can do, you must learn to live”
People who swim in Lake Ontario every Sunday are the followers of a natural health system by Teacher Porfiry Ivanov.
Porfiry Ivanov’s natural recovery twelve points system “CHILD” (”DETKA”) help to achieve the harmony of body, mind and soul. The system is based on training your body by exposure to cold as well as other adverse impacts, such as fasting. Everyone can follow the rules, even if he/she is weak or sick. It is important to believe in your ability, “open” to the life-giving forces of nature.
Take your place in nature. Only your own affairs and labor in nature will benefit to you, it is easy.
CHILD
1. Twice a day, bath in cold, natural water so that you feel good. Swim, where you can: in the lake, river, bath, take a shower. This is your environment. Make the cold bathing follows the hot bathing.
2. Before bathing, or after it, and if possible at the same time, go to the open air, stand with your bare feet on the ground in winter snow for at least 1-2 minutes. Breath through the mouth a few times and wish for health to yourself and all the people.
3. Do not drink alcohol and do not smoke.
4. Try at least once a week to go completely without food and water starting at 18-20 pm on Friday to Sunday noon. This practice will give you the sense of achievement and inner peace. If it is too hard, keep fasting at least 24 hours starting on Friday.
5. At noon on Sunday get outside to some natural environment, breath and think as described above. This is the feast of your body. After that you can eat anything you like.
6. Get used to this. Say Hello to everybody, especially in older people. If you want to be healthy say Hello everywhere.
8. Help people with what you can, especially the poor, sick. Enjoy doing it. Listen to the peoples’ needs, soul, and heart. You will get your peace of mind!
9. Overcome your greed, sloth, complacency, money-grubbing, fear, hypocrisy. Believe people and love them. Do not talk about them unfairly, and not keep any bad opinion about them.
10. Free your mind from thinking about diseases, ailments or death. This is your victory.
11. The idea is not separated from the nature. Reading is good but the most important is DOING IT!
12. Pass on your experience of the practice, but do not boast, and do not feel superior for doing it. Be modest.

We are glad to join this community of winter swimming.
We swim at Humber Bay Park in Etobicoke since 1997. Every Sunday at the noon.
We don’t write the manuals of winter swimming. We don’t tell the stoires “How I dip into the cold water”.
We just do it. We practice. It’s not once year dip, it’s the life style.
